Why I think Cell is a better villain then Buu

Buu is an amazing fighter but all of the things that caused Buu's downfall are things that wouldn't effect Cell.

Both absorb things, Cell the androids and Buu whatever he wants but while Buu can absorb more and gain power quickly through absorption, he can also lose the power he absorbed if someone shields themself when covered in the globs of buu while being absorbed and goes into his body and pulls out the pods like Vegito did, reverting him back to his original form. Cell on the other hand, only briefly reverted back to second form when Gohan hit him so hard he puked up 18 but later even without 18 his body managed to bring itself back to his perfect form because his cells had tasted that power and had stored away the memory of it, allowing him to turn back to perfect form even without 18. Cell can also absorb a person's life force by sticking them with his tail like he tried to do to Piccolo, allowing him to grow stronger while draining a person of their energy, this potentially could allow Cell to gain as much power from the person as if he were to absorb them like Buu does because there's nothing left after Cell completely drains a person of their energy but with no drawback of losing that power like if someone were to exploit that weakness of the pods Buu has.

Buu has infinite stamina and incredible regeneration but he also has a set power level. He takes advantage of this by teleporting from planet to planet and self destructing, causing the planet to explode and because of his regeneration abilities, he reforms quickly and does it again. Cell may regenerate slower than Buu but Cell's power can constantly rise through zenkais he can get from exploding himself or being seriously injured in general. He literally can grow stronger and stronger if he wanted to by exploding himself over and over in the same fashion Buu did when he went on a rampage after destroying earth. So eventually, after exploding himself like 10-15 times, Cell would be strong enough that he wouldn't need to regenerate because he'd be so much stronger that he wouldn't get injured by most attacks and if he wasn't he could just keep exploding himself in the emptyness of space till he was. And with every planet Cell destroys by blowing himself up, his cells would gain the knowledge and techniques of any strong fighter that might inhabit that planet the same way his body learned instant transmission from Goku after the self destruction on king kai's planet. So he's essentially absorbing the fighters on the planet without having to actually fight them or get near them.

So while Buu is a great villain, everywhere he excels, Cell has the potential to surpass him if he uses his powers appropriately and doesn't let his arrogance blind him.

Considering Cell has the cells of Frieza and Vegeta in him, that alone says bye bye to arrogance management.

That's true but for Buu, every absorption he makes is a gamble and he doesn't really know what he's getting. He might not get what he expects by absorbing someone like how he changed after absorbing Grand Dai-kaioh from Kid Buu into Fat Buu. That drastically changed his personality and made him less out of control and in a sense weakened him. I think he looked at Grand Dai-Kaioh as a strong fighter and wanted his power but didn't expect Grand Dai-kaioh to influence his personality in the way it did. Whereas with Cell, he can absorb peoples techniques and power through either sticking them with his tail or exploding himself and gaining it that way without worrying how someone he absorbs might influence him.

If Cell exploded himself over and over to the point where he was strong enough to retain his consciousness even in chocolate form like Vegito did when Buu turned him into chocolate then he'd keep fighting until Buu turns him back.

Right so Cell is only better if all the right conditions are met.

They aren't hard conditions to meet. It took him only a couple minutes to regenerate after exploding on King Kai's planet. Theoretically he could explode himself dozens of times in a day and gain a zenkai boost each time. It wouldn't take long to catch up to Buu's power or surpass it.

Well he had to travel to a different time line because 17 & 18 were dead and if Bulma never made a time machine he never would have reached perfection. In the normal time line he never matured past the larvae stage.

That's true I guess I was looking at perfect form as a starting point while ignoring the other forms and the conditions that have to met to become perfect but once perfect form is attained, Cell has potential to grow stronger and stronger without training and without any chance of losing that power, whereas Buu even as Buuhan is vulnerable if someone who's power is close to his exploits his absorption and enters his body, freeing the pods.

Yeah once he gets to that point he is pretty godly though. He isn't called perfect for no reason.

In a sense, Cell really is "the perfect being", minus his battle power and not-infinite-stamina (except for zenkais). Constantly blowing himself up would be cheap, but I guess it would work. But if he gets too strong, zenkais will eventually become minimal (Gohan was near death against Buutenks, and whatever zenkai he may have received afterwards wasn't worth noting. Also, the Super Saiyans apparently get no/tiny zenkais). Otherwise, everything stands.

But......the candy beam.
>_< Perhaps Buu will have learned his lesson and will turn Cell into a marshmellow instead.

On a slight side-note, Buu and Cell have all this stuff going for them. That's why they're both great villains, but Cell is always better in my books, and not just because of his abilities.

cell has brains, which he can use in battle.....kid buu doesnt, he sucks!!
also, toriyama was a troll in the buu saga, so obviously the cell saga was better

Cell was smart, tactical, cool, while his over-inflated arrogance was his downfall. Frieza was no different, though he has some anger-management issues to be solved.

Buu on the other hand, was a refreshing change in the tone of villains, innocence. I'm talkin about Fat Boo ofc, though he would've made an average villain had he was restrained (by Toriyama) & toned down in terms of useless drags which dont contribute towards his characterizations.

Super Buu as average, while Buutenks was more like Perfect Cell. Buuhan was O.k while Kid Buu epitomized Goku & Vegeta's characterizations: Brain & brawn. Plot-device u could say.

Cell is my favourite villain any day as his epic clashes as Final Flash, USSJ Trunks, Goku vs Cell (No More Rules) elevated his position as one of an all-time badass.

Buu however remains to be both, an underdone & an underrated foe. His fights ranging frm Majin Vegeta vs Fat Boo till conclusive Goku vs Kid Boo (Chou Genki Dama) remains classic. Many factors as shift of Gohan's spotlight, fans outcry still persists, while the fact that Toriyama thouroughly enjoyed Buu Saga, something which he didn't seem to with previous sagas will always be evident.

When buu gets pushed into the corner he unleashes his most powerful technique, absorption. Even mystic gohan couldn't repel it, and gohan isn't exactly stupid.

But if we're talking about who's better as a character then yeah of course I'll go with Cell. I'd go with cell over frieza even.

Personally I'd say buu is better because he managed to survive for centuries while cell died in less than a year. And buu actually destroyed earth and never gave up until the bitter end while cell tryed killing himself and taking the earth with him.

Honestly though I'd say neither are quite as good as frieza because he had his own power and didn't need to rely on absorbing people. And frieza and buu would never have backed down from a fight while cell spent half his saga sneeking around and hiding from a stronger opponent.

Out of the main 3 I'd say cell was the least ruthless although that didn't stop him from absorbing all those people in a horror movie like fashion and I did like his sense of sportsmanship until he threw it out the window against gohan.
"The future of Gohan. The Future of Chi Chi. Not to mention the future of the entire universe. It all depends on me!!!! And I don't care if you're a million times stronger than me! I'm not going to let them down! So get ready Frieza because this time you're going Down!!!"
